Martin of Tours Inaugural Concert
Newly renovated St. Martin of Tours Church in Amityville was the beautiful setting of the gala Inaugural Concert on June 3, 2000, featuring Tom Hazleton, master organist and recording star, and the Concert Choir of St. Martin's under the director of Director of Music and Organist Peter Schubart, and soloists Diane Bayen, soprano, and Terence Goff, tenor. Over 500 people were thrilled and a standing ovation was immediately given to the gifted musicians. As Tom Hazleton said during the concert, "the choir under Peter Schubart's direction was absolutely breathtaking!"
The organ speaks from three separate locations: the Right Transept where the choir and the organ console are located, the Left Transept, and the Gallery, where the Main Organ is located. Tom Hazleton used all three locations to great effect, as the congregation heard the distinct locations come into play. Msgr. Robert S. Saccacio, pastor, was a gracious host, and Jim Stubenrauch, chairman of the organ committee, felt that the exciting concert was another evidence of great teamwork. Parishioners welcomed back Fr. Dan Sheridan, who served St. Martin's Parish for eight years and is currently associate pastor at St. Vincent de Paul in Elmont.
